Detailed content
There are a few dozen foreign spouses learning Yoga at a cabin near the Gang Nan Seaside Scenic Area in Hsinchu, and the teacher, who’s speaking Mandarin Chinese, is a girl from White Russia, named Kate.
Every Sunday morning, Kate’s husband will take her to the cabin from the downtown, and Kate will start her lesson in this offshore classroom without any charge. “I hope every foreign girl who came to marry Taiwanese can live a happy life.” said Kate.
Kate is now a 22-year-old girl. After graduating from Francisk Skorina Gomel State University, she went to New York for a short-term research. There, she met her boyfriend, who’s now working in Hsinchu Science Park, and then they decided to come to Taiwan after married.
Kate is very versatile in dancing. She plays Aerobic Exercise, Latin Dance, Belly Dance, and even Yoga. After she came to Taiwan, besides teaching English in cram school, she’s also teaching dancing in the Science Park.
Leaning Chinese is very expensive in White Russia, so when He Yu-li, Director of Care Association for Foreign Spouses, decided to teach her Chinese for free, Kate was really surprised.
According to the Director He, most of the foreign spouses are Philippine, Vietnamese, and Indonesian, and they are all from nearby fishing villages. They hope to learn not only Chinese, but also some leisure activities, like dancing. Since it might cost too much to hire a teacher, Director He decided to invite Kate to teach dancing for those foreign spouses, and Kate agreed readily.
Since Kate was willing to be the teacher, Director He soon found a classroom near Gang Nan Seaside Scenic Area. Right now, this place is more like a community center for foreign spouses. Every foreign spouse can learn Chinese, conversation, as well as dancing and Yoga here. “This is what I can do for the community.” said Kate.
