<description>Construction is going to start on the project to extend Hsinchu City Gongdao 5th Rd (toward East). This morning (9th), a groundbreaking ceremony was taking place at the intersection of Gongdao 5th Rd and Ciyun Rd. Hsinchu City Mayor Hsu Ming-Tsai, along with Deputy Magistrate Chang Jen Hsiang and several Representatives of Public Opinion to participate in this ceremony to celebrate the first day of construction for this project. They prayed with incense sticks and wished the construction will go well.
City Councilors Lu Hsueh-Chang indicated that this construction is really important for traffic of East District. And he believed it will upgrade the community life quality and boost up economy for the surrounding communities.

<description>This morning (8th), Hsinchu City Mayor Hsu Ming-Tsai invited more than 40 municipal expert counselors to participate in a meeting. The meeting was mainly to discuss on five subjects, and those five subjects are education, public works, transportation, tourism and industrial development. 
During the meeting, they also discussed about how to use wind power and solar energy efficiently, and how it would help Hsinchu city to transform into the green energy city. There were several professors indicated that Hsinchu city got a very unique wind. It is because Hsinchu city is surrounded by mountains on three sides and the sea on one side. These advantages created the development of wind power generator in Hsinchu City. Those counselors emphasized that Hsinchu city has the nickname of "Windy City", therefore, we should use this green energy more wisely.

<description>Today (7th), the President of Hsinchu City Buddhist Institute, Liu Hsiu-Yen, visited Hsinchu City government and donated 45,000 books for Hsinchu City Jr. High and Elementary School’s students. This book is named “The Basic Rules of Etiquette”. It teaches student the basic etiquette and how to be polite to others. 
The President of Hsinchu City Buddhist Institute, Liu Hsiu-Yen, indicated that Hsinchu city has a total of 44,315 students in Jr. High and Elementary School; therefore, their institute donated 45,000 books to Hsinchu City. They also donated 120,000 books for Hsinchu County’s Jr. High and Elementary School students. 
Mayor Hsu stated that Hsinchu city government has been promoting the reading activities in recent years. Proper etiquette for students is very important. It allows them to develop good social skills and manners.

<description>Mayors’ Forum of the 7th World Technopolis Association General Assembly (WTA) was held this afternoon (3rd). There were 9 Mayors or Deputy Mayors giving briefings about their cities. Those 9 cities are Lpswich, Brisbane, Xian, Gliiwice, Chengdu、Changsa, Hsinchu, Pohang and Daejeon. Each briefing was about 10 minutes, and it has all been presented by English.
Mayor Hsu indicated that Hsinchu is northern Taiwan's oldest city, notable for historic sites and abundant cultures. In order to achieve the reduction goals, the city set up a "low-carbon center" as a cross-departmental promotion organization. The action programs includes the seven dimensions on”resource recycling,” “energy conservation”, “renewable energy,” ”low-carbon construction,” “green transportation,” “green environment,” and “low-carbon life.” City’s short and long-term objectives are: Short-term: 210,838 tons CO2 reduction by 2012, and long-term: CO2 will return to half of 2000 emission levels by 2050.

Unfortunately, bad weather forced a change of plans to get everything indoors. Therefore, the welcome party was taken place at Ambassador Hotel Hsinchu. During the welcome party, Chorus of Daejeon Metropolitan City performed a famous Taiwanese song “Tien Hei Hei” to the audiences, and it has really surprised everybody.

<description>The World Alzheimer’s Day falls on September 21. This morning (21st), at the press conference for World Alzheimer’s Day, Mayor Hsu expressed gratitude to Hsinchu Catholic Social Service Center, Old Five Old Foundation, and Taiwan Alzheimer’s Disease Association for their effort in raising awareness of dementia and improving service provision for people with dementia and their carers. According to Mayor Hsu, Alzheimer’s is a disease that commonly targets senior citizens. He encouraged everyone to pay more attention to their loved ones – especially the elderly; early diagnoses allow early treatment. In addition, regular exercising also helps to keep dementia at bay. Mayor Hsu reminded the public that if they see middle-aged family members showing signs of memory lapse, mood disorder, and personality changes, they should look for medical assistance as soon as possible.

<description>The pre-camp farewell seminar for Hsinchu City’s Army Echelon 2096 was held today at City Auditorium this morning (17th). Chief Secretary to the Mayor of Hsinchu City Government, Yang Yuan-Hsun, represented for Mayor Hsu Ming-Tsai to attend the seminar and gave a speech. He wanted everyone to feel relieved that the Military Training is now being humanized and rationalized. Chief Secretary Yang emphasized military discipline is the key, and so is safety. Hopefully, all draftees can go to the camp happily and can come home safely as well. 
Chief Secretary Yang stated that by joining the army, it’s a great chance for boys to transform to a man. And it is normal for draftees and parents to feel nervous. However, all draftees and parents should feel relieved because the City will treat all draftees as their own children or family members.

<description>Today (16th), one of the series event of Chinese Valentine’s Day celebration, the coming-of-age ceremony was held at Chulian Temple, and Mayor Hsu, Acting Director Lin of Cultural Affairs Bureau, and other guests were all invited to witness the ceremony. Although “night of the seventh” is known as Chinese Valentine’s Day, it also marks the time to celebrate the children's arrival at adulthood on the birthday of Chiniangma, who are viewed as protectors of children. During the ceremony of “turning 16”, the children have to pass under a miniature Chiniangma pagoda made of bamboo and paper, which is held up high by their parents, as a ritual passage to adulthood. After that, the pagoda will be burned for dedicating to Chiniangma as saying goodbye to their childhood years.

<description>Today (15th), Hsinchu City Empathy and Care Association for New Immigrant Women hosted a parent-and-child karaoke event for new immigrants and their family members, and there were over 100 people from new immigrant families participating in this activity. Through this activity, Mayor Hsu hoped that those new immigrant families are able to know more each other and thus enhance the interaction between children and parents. <description>Today (14th), the 2010 “Energetic Tiger – Taoyuan, Hsinchu, Miaoli Career and Job Fair” was taken place at Hsinchu Municipal Stadium. Mayor Hsu Ming-Tsai and Legislator Lu Hsueh-Chang along with other visited the event and wished all job seekers could find the right job in this job fair. There were at least more than 40 employers with booths set up for those job seekers and approximately over 4,572 job opportunities were available in this job fair. Those job seekers were able to access one-stop shopping for a new job.

<description>The third field services training seminar for Hsinchu City’s Substitute Services Draftees in year 2010 was hosted in National Hsinchu Commercial and Vocational High School today (13th). 
There were a total of 92 services draftees attended this seminar. In the morning, all the draftees were doing clothing inspection and basic training. Mayor Hsu Mint-Tsai also attempted the field services training seminar and encouraged all draftees to follow the disciplines and assist others in the work field. <description>Today, the “2010 National Hakka Food Culinary Competition” was held at the plaza in Tianhou Temple on Ximen Street, and total of 52 Hakka groups and communities from all over the place were all attended this culinary contest to contend for the prize of three famous Hakka cuisine-Creative Hakka Food, Hakka Dessert, and Pork Intestines with Ginger. On behalf of Mayor Hsu, Deputy Mayor Tseng attended the opening ceremony for this national culinary contest. According to Deputy Mayor Tseng, Hakka food represents the hard work and thrifty nature of the Hakka people.
